How to Install a Kembla Copper Pipe Under Your Home

Do you know how to handle plumbing projects? If not, you can easily learn to do it if you choose to use copper pipes on your hot and cold-water supply lines. However, it may take you a few extra tools if you want to get it done right. Therefore, we are going to tell you how to install a Kembla copper pipe under your home or in your walls on renovation projects.

Installing with Compression

Some copper pipes can be put together using compression. This is a very secure connection that should never form a leak if you have put the pieces together properly. The first thing you must remember is to make sure all ends are free of burrs that may lessen the seal quality. You can do this with a wire brush on the inside of the fittings and pipes. You should also do your best to avoid overtightening the fittings. They should not end up twisted or crimped in any way. The pressure that is required will be minimal, especially if you use a tool that is designed to clamp things into place.

Soft Soldering

Many people prefer to attach fittings to pipes using soldering. The Kembla copper pipe must still be free of defects. You should apply flux as long as they do not contain ammonium compounds and other stuff. When soldering you need to make sure that you apply uniform heat and you should try to avoid leaving globs of solder inside or outside of the pipe. Because you will want to use pipes that are lead free, your solder should not have a lot of lead in it. It is recommended that it contain less than 0.1% lead.

Push Fit Joints

There are some pipes that allow you to push fit the joints together. This should be done following the manufacturer’s instructions. You should use O rings to give it a more secure closure and remove all potential burrs inside and outside of the ends. Push fit fittings should never be used for gas or compressed air applications. They are also not ideal for solar heat or water that is hotter than 90 C. unless you are using copper pipes. The biggest difference is that you will need a different O ring with gas, water, and other types of stuff.
